In the early hours of September 15, 2008 Lehman Brothers announced it
would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and it sent shock
waves through the global economy -- ultimately shrinking the economy by
more than 10% and costing us more than 800,000 jobs a month with
devastating implications for families and businesses. In the five years since, we've made incredible progress as a country. And so while there's still more work to be done, we've asked senior staff from across the Obama administration to sit down and talk about the moments when key decisions were made -- the factors they weighed, and the results of the actions that President Obama took. Check out a behind-the-scenes look of the decision-making process that you won't find anywhere else. |

Earlier today, the Census Bureau released estimates of the number of
Americans who lacked health insurance in 2012, and the Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS) estimated that nearly 6 out of 10
uninsured Americans could be able to access low-cost, high value health
insurance for under $100 per person per month starting in 2014. Yesterday, before delivering remarks on the economy, President Obama gave a brief statement about the tragic events at the Washington Navy Yard. President Obama follows up on his speech to the nation on Tuesday and describes the possibility for a diplomatic solution in Syria, partially because of the credible threat of U.S. military force. |
